There are some beautiful golf courses in the Winelands and Cape Town; here are our top picks.
De Zalze: The 300 hectare estate offers golfers and visitors the opportunity to enjoy wine tasting, dining and an 18-hole golf course.
Devonvale Golf Course: a consistent 18-hole challenge to both local and international golfers alike.
Paarl Boschenmeer Golf Club: the only 27-hole golf course in the Western Province, and the first David Frost signature golf course in South Africa.
Pearl Valley: situated near Franschhoek, this is currently one of the best golf courses in South Africa and host to the S.A. Open Championship on the Sunshine Tour.
Stellenbosch Golf Club: Here you can appreciate the magnificent views of the setting sun and Table Mountain in the distance.
There are amazing hikes to be done in and around the Winelands and Cape Town:
Bretagne Rock, Paarl: although daunting in appearance, this hike is not as serious as it looks and the reward is panoramic views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and False Bay.
Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, Franschhoek:
Cat’s Pass begins with a steep 2.5 km ascent which leads to beautiful views of the fynbos reserve and Franschhoek Valley.
Dutoitskop Trail is an out-and-return route that climbs 700m to the summit of Dutoitskop. The Perdekop ascends to the Wemmershoek Peak lookout before the summit - although this is a steep route, the views are well worth the effort.
Delevera Bird Walk, Stellenbosch: bird enthusiasts are advised to try the 1.25km walk around the dam, which supplies a closer look at plentiful ducks, geese, weavers, pheasants and more. Their 9.75km vineyard trail takes one through the conservancy, including views of the Winelands and Table Mountain.
Simonsberg Hiking Trail, Stellenbosch: for the more serious hikers, a trip through stuning kloofs to some beautiful waterfalls. Breathtaking views await to reward the effort.
